Noted :: Attack of the Apps – August 2013

Here we are again, my favorite blog post of the month – the app review! Here are two apps that I’ve been using this month. I know I usually review three apps, but one of these app will leave you hooked to your phone!

 1. Juxtaposer

This fun new app should be called the Photoshop App for Dummies. It allows you combine multiple pictures together from your Camera Roll to create new and unique images. You can take your favorite elements from one image, and layer in another image on top. It has an easy to use “erase” tool – so no masking or clipping involved – just a swipe of the finger can erase, or unerase, the sections of the layered image you no longer want. I especially love this app because of its easy-to-use interface. So many of the Photoshop-like apps are overly complicated and not worth the hassle. This app isn’t free but I would say its worth the $2.99 purchase price!

How Is It Relevant For Your Business?
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again— images are increasingly essential for your marketing and social media strategies. Apps like Juxtaposer allows you to get creative and deliver your own unique message through visuals. Don’t settle for stock – create the images that enhance and delivery your message.

 2. If This Then That

How can I accurately describe this app in one paragraph – well, I’m not sure that I can. This app is really a game changer in the mobile application world. It essentially takes the apps and other functionality that already exists on your iPhone and joins them together to create “recipes.” It’s like custom creating your own mini applications and allows your phone or tablet to function exactly how you want it to.  Have you ever wanted to receive a text to let you know when it’s raining – this app allows you to combine whatever Weather app you use and your SMS text message to do just that. I could go on about the recipe combinations for an entire post such as email me my new iPhone photos, add my FourSquare check-in history to my Google Calendar, save all my Instagram photos to my DropBox – but its so much more then that…

How Is It Relevant For Your Business?
No more complaining, I love this app but I wished it did…well, now it does. This app allows you to customize the way you want to use your smartphone or tablet, all in one place. We have a calendar application, an RSS feed, 3 email accounts, a DropBox, an EverNote account – and each applications works perfectly…separately. What IFTTT does for you is combines everything you need and makes it work for you. Who doesn’t love customization? It’s a time saver and we could all use a little more time. Do you want to backup your phone contacts to a Google Spreadsheet, download new Facebook photos that your fans upload to your DropBox, flag YouTube videos to watch later in your Pocket app – this application will do that and so much more.
