This week we’re turing the focus of our blog to giving and giving back. We will be featuring local non-profits  all this week in hope of bringing awareness to these wonderful organizations and to support the important work they do.

Today, we are introducing you to Safe Futures {formerly Women’s Center of Southern CT} – a wonderful non-profit organization who has been serving families and saving lives since 1976. Safe Futures saves lives, restores hope and changes the future for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault in southeastern Connecticut.

If you’re interested in ways you can help brighten the holidays for a family in crisis, here are a few ways to help this organization during the holiday season:

Adopt -A- Family:  With your generosity, we can fulfill the holiday wishes for over 60 families currently in crisis or transition in our community. Donors purchase items from a wish list provided by each “adopted” family.

Holiday Wish List: Donate new, unwrapped gifts from our Holiday Wish List  to be distributed to women and children fleeing violence, experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence, or dealing with the trauma of domestic abuse.

Gift Cards: Gift cards allow clients to regain their dignity and self esteem by providing the opportunity to choose what they need, when they need it during the holidays and throughout the year. Women who have recently left their abuser are often without financial resources for basic needs. This Holiday Season, we encourage the donation of gift cards.

Wrapping paper, scotch tape, gift tags, gift bags and bows are always appreciated! Please contact Susan Noyes for more information 860-447-0366 ex. 207 and/or SNoyes@SafeFuturesCT.org

Empower women and help families build a safe future!

What are you able to do this year? Are there any organizations – local or otherwise – that you feel are deserving of recognition? Any unsung heroes – perhaps a co-worker or company you work with – who sets an example for their charitable efforts? We’d love to know about them and give them a shout-out on our blog. Leave us a comment and please, pass along the spirit of giving to those around you this holiday. Also, please be sure to share this blog post on any of your social media pages to help spread the word – Thank You and Cheers!
