News :: Here’s How To Help Our Neighbors in Oklahoma

Here is what I’m thinking about today. My heart is heavy and all my thoughts and prayers are in Oklahoma with the many victims from yesterday’s devastating tornado.

It’s been difficult to watch the images and see the destruction and listen to the stories of unfathomable loss. And the children …. I can’t really dwell on that thought for more than a moment. If I were there, I would be digging day and night without rest to free them – as I’m sure rescuers are right now. But my heart is broken, again.

And I have yet to turn on the news for more than a few minutes. I keep hearing torturing phases such as “unimaginable loss”, “total destruction” and “death tolls certain to rise”. It’s too much to bare.

It also feels like we – our nation – just keeps going through this torment. Hurricane Irene and Sandy, the Sandy Hook shootings (which still make me tremble with shocking grief), the Boston Marathon bombing … and now this. How much more can we take? I’m sure many of you have had similar thoughts and feelings.

What comforts me – the only thing that comforts me at times like this – is my absolute resolve that there is far and away more love and caring in this world than apathy and hate. And no matter the natural disasters or acts of hatred by a few insane individuals, we will all get through this, somehow, by pulling together. As a nation, as neighbors, as friends, as an extended family, as citizens of this earth – we will pull together, help one another, reach out to strangers and show that we care and they are not alone.

So I’m asking you, our neighbors, our friends – let’s rally, pitch in, and do what we can to provide the support and help needed right now for those who have just lost everything. Let’s be the example to the people of Oklahoma – and to the world – that people everywhere care and walk by their side through this nightmare.

Here’s how you can help.
