Noted :: Kristkindlmarkt at Terrain

November 25th, 2013 | Blog, Noted

Saturday I attended my very first Kristkindlmarkt (or ChristKindlMarkt). A Kristkindlmarkt is an open-air market where artisans sell their goods and are associated with the celebration of Christmas.

These markets, although new to me, are in no way new. In fact, according to Wikipedia, the history of Christmas markets goes back to the Late Middle Ages in the German-speaking part of Europe. Dresden’s Strietzelmarkt was first held in 1434.

So, here’s how I came to be at my very first Kristkindlmarkt. It has to do with this sweet man nicknamed “Sweet Paul”.

Noted :: An App I Used To Love …

November 13th, 2013 | Blog, Noted

This is the story of a bad breakup between me and an app called “Lift”, which I used to be in love with. Lift is a simple-to-use, motivational mobile app where you enter personal goals of things you want to accomplish. It tracks how often each day you achieve various goals and, with regular success, those personal goals eventually become habits.

 For example, a goal could be ‘losing weight’ or ‘floss everyday’ or ‘learn Chinese’. Each day you work on that goal, you simply swipe your finger across the word on…

Here’s A Thought :: Getting Stuff Done

November 11th, 2013 | Blog, Here's a Thought

Being productive doesn’t come naturally for me. I have to work on it. Constantly.

Like everyone else, there are the good days … and then there are the bad days. The worst are those times where every little thing distracts you – Netflix, ice cream, the great outdoors, and my all-time time killer – the Internet. And  I do long for my college days when I could pull an all-nighter and still attend all my classes the next day, focused and awake. How did we do that?

Even finding time to write this blog post over this weekend was a challenge. Parades,…

Noted :: #TBT (Throw Back Thursday)

It’s difficult to know when #TBT (aka “Throw Back Thursday”) began. But, regardless of when – here is my own personal throwback this Thursday. Me and my Dad – best friends – circa 1972. I remember his scratchy blue and black wool plaid shirt and my itchy ‘holiday’ dress as if it was yesterday. Dad was taking a break from trying to capture my brother and I in a pose where we weren’t fighting for our family holiday card. I miss my Dad everyday. This picture makes me smile. Sitting on my Dad’s lap was my ‘happy…
