Let’s Talk Video: Why You Need It

Video has become an increasingly popular and successful tactic for promoting brands. Applying video to your marketing mix increases awareness and interaction with your brand. It is the perfect medium to tell your product and company story in a compelling and unforgettable way. Live events make for great video –– so think in terms of motion as you attend Expo West.

We’ve compiled a few tips to get you thinking and strategizing using video:

1. Don’t shoot video for the sake of video.

People aren’t interested in something that won’t grab their attention. Make sure your video has a clear message and value, not just content. Creating “wow” content will ensure views, shares and leave an impression.

2. Leverage existing resources.

Creating video can be challenging with so many moving parts to consider –– but to help you start planning, think about the resources you do have already on hand. Start your story with what you have and build from there.

3. Go live.

People are interested in watching live content. It helps them feel as though they are in the moment with you, and share the experience you are providing to them in your video. While at Expo, consider a Facebook live video. Share events going on around you, what’s going on inside your booth, impromptu interviews with your CEO or a fan of your brand –– anything you think creates interest and entertainment that fits well with your brand.

4. Keep it short and sweet.

Viewers have very, very short attention spans. Therefore, you must grab their attention in the first couple of seconds of your video, period. Keep the length under 60 seconds, keep your messaging simple and on-point, and keep it interesting and active.

5. Show the human side.

People like to see people –– not just inanimate objects. Your audience connects with people, and people connect with your message.

6. Tell a story.

Everyone has a story to tell -– about how your company started, how your product came to be, what’s new and exciting with your brand, customers sharing what they love about your products, and more. When developing your video plan, put yourself in the mind of your audience and tell a great, relevant and interesting story.

7. Create a call to action.

Whether the call to action is to share your content, use your hashtag, order your product, comment on the video, like your page, or visit your website, be sure to tell your audience what you’d like them to do next –- the most important part! And be sure to reply when they do.

8. Ready to roll?

Once your video is complete, it’s time to post it on every social channel, including your Vimeo and YouTube channels. Think of all the other places you can use this content and take advantage where appropriate. Could you send it in an email blast following the show? Post it on your website? Use it in a sponsored social media campaign? Sales meeting? If it’s great content you have created, get creative and get it out there!
